Lorain Avenue / Bus Shelters
2021
This artwork was created for seven RTA bus shelters for Bellaire-Puritas Development Corp., requested in a similar style to the piece created for the Cleveland Clinic’s Panera, but specific to their neighborhood and community. You can find the shelters down Lorain Avenue in Cleveland, OH, between West 130th and West 143rd.
Due to turnaround time and budget, this artwork was created digitally before being installed as vinyl wraps on seven bus shelters.
To accurately reflect the neighborhood, I first photographed up and down Lorain Avenue and in the area surrounding Jefferson Park where the shelters would be located. I pull forms and imagery from these photos as elements to be used in the artwork.
I created many of my layers in this design by pulling from these photographs - isolating forms and imagery that I want to incorporate, playing with scale and color along the way. I also included a hand painted element (paint on wood) for the background / sky which brings added texture to the piece.
The artwork was digitally printed and wrapped onto the shelters with a perforated vinyl material - this is great because from the outside, the art is fully visible but when riders sit inside, they can see through.
